From Fire to Feast: Savour Indigenous Culinary Traditions with Renowned Chefs in an Immersive Dining Event at Navy Hall
Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario – November 15, 2024 — The Culinary Tourism Alliance and Parks Canada proudly present "A Great Taste of Canada Experience at Fort George," an exclusive dining experience that celebrates Indigenous culinary heritage, history, and storytelling at the storied Navy Hall in Niagara-on-the-Lake. On Saturday, December 7, guests are invited to join chefs Tawnya Brant and Aicha Smith-Belghaba as they bring Indigenous foodways to life through an unforgettable evening and multi-course menu.
This intimate event offers an engaging glimpse into the history, ingredients, and cultural significance of Indigenous cuisine. Each dish, crafted from seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, reflects the essence of Indigenous storytelling and tradition. Guests will enjoy a
thoughtfully-curated menu featuring comforting Indigenous soups and breads, aromatic bison braised with juniper, and a dessert finale that captures the spirit of the season.
Both chefs will guide attendees through each course, sharing the origins, techniques, and symbolism behind the dishes. This experience goes beyond the food and offers profound insight into Indigenous food culture, resilience, and connection to the land.
Set against the historic backdrop of Navy Hall, this experience embodies the intersection of past and present, celebrating culinary artistry and cultural heritage in a way that is both enriching and enlightening. The Culinary Tourism Alliance and Parks Canada are thrilled to bring this unique experience to Niagara-on-the-Lake, with support from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), inviting both locals and visitors alike to immerse themselves in the stories and flavours that make Indigenous cuisine such a vital part of Canadian heritage.
